EuroClim products

This semi-operational climate monitoring service has been developed by the CEC IST 5th Framework Programme's project EuroClim (see http://euroclim.nr.no). The service provides a one-stop-shopping web service for searching, retrieving, browsing, on-line analysis and downloading of products. The products are produced regularly by an advanced network of distributed production systems and stored in a corresponding network of databases. Data are currently being back-processed as long as possible in order to obtain many years of products. The web service provides easy search and retrieval over the network without bothering the user with where and how products are stored. The semi-operational service will be released in March 2005.

The system is a totally flexible network concept that can be easily modified to cover new geographic regions and new cryospheric variables, and to include new products and more monitoring node operating organisations. It will cover sea ice for the whole Arctic Ocean, the Greenland ice sheet, glaciers in Svalbard and seasonal snow in Fennoscandia. A comprehensive set of sea ice, glacier and snow variables are monitored with a corresponding production of various products (from digital maps of the primary variables to climate-change indicator products). The system does both long-term regular observations and climate projections for the Arctic and Europe using the observations available to improve climate modelling. The observations are primarily based on satellite data but also include in situ data when such data are available.
